Meet Kimsies — hand-felted wool from Stowe
Kimsies started on a river float. Kim saw a drink holder someone else had, a crocheted one, and figured she could make a better version in felted wool. She made a few and gave them away as gifts. People kept asking for more.
They're called Kaddies. Wool drink sleeves and wine bottle carriers, knit and then hand-felted at our home in Stowe. The cord goes on before the felting, so in the wash the whole thing fuses into one piece - no clips, no snaps, nothing to break off. Loop it around your neck and your drink comes with you.
A bartender in the British Virgin Islands once put it better than we've managed since: it's like an extra hand for your beer.
For British Invasion we made a couple of things specially. There's a Union Jack colorway, knit in the flag's real proportions rather than approximated, in both the can size and the wine bottle size. And a British racing green, because it seemed rude not to.
This is our first booth. Come find us, put your hands on the wool, and tell us what you think - we genuinely don't know yet what people will make of these, and that's most of what the weekend is for.
Kimsies is Matt and Kim McManus, Stowe, Vermont.
